1st Global South Young Diplomats Forum

The 1st Global South Young Diplomats Forum is being held at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS), Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi from 20 Nov - 01 Dec  2023. Thirty young diplomats representing thirty nations of the Global South are participating in this course. [These are from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Oman, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, Seychelles, Tanzania, Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Cuba, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Paraguay, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and Solomon Islands.]

The Forum was inaugurated on 20 November 2023 by Amb Gaddam Dharmendra, Dean (SSIFS). The diplomats paid a courtesy call-on on External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar.

The 1st GSYDF has been organised in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for bringing synergy in the voice of Global South. The course is organised to deliberate upon the role and relevance of Global South in the evolving world order. It aims to strengthen bilateral and multilateral ties while asserting an inclusive development plan among the G20 and non-G20 nations of the Global South.

The Forum will have modules on Global Geo-Political Landscape, Economic & Multilateral Diplomacy, Climate Change and Renewable Energy Options, Digital Diplomacy & e-Governance platforms; Globalization of Supply Chains; Development Partnership and Administration; Overview of G20 Deliberations and Takeaways; SDGs and India’s Development Story; Strategic Importance of Technology; Water Security; and Space Diplomacy.

Sessions on Ayurveda, Yoga and India’s culture and heritage including an introduction to classical Indian Dance and Music have also been included. As part of their field-visits, the diplomats will be visiting NISE & ISA; Maruti Manufacturing Plant; ICAR; PRIDE and New Parliament Building; National Museum; and Akshardham Temple.  A day-long visit to Agra is also planned.
